Day Twelve
November 1, 2007
One thing that isn’t a surprise about the new machine is how efficient it is at getting the juice out. I could tell the old one often seemed to lose a lot of juice into the pulp bin since the grinds were so wet. This machine seems to squeeze every drop out. As an example, dinner was 2 sweet potatoes and 2 carrots – that gives me 16 oz. of juice. With the new machine I wrapped up one of the sweet potatoes and put it back in the fridge untouched, because I already had a full glass. This morning I had ½ cantaloupe which I can always count on to be a 16 oz. glass. In the Breville that same half extracted 24 oz. of fresh juice.
So the calculation on money saved for produce would be machine cost divided by X number of sweet potatoes. Ahhh oh.. X = more than the 2006 and 2007 sweet potato crop.
